Mitch Garbutt and the punch that landed him a two match ban.
It’s not going to come as a surprise, but the punch Mitch Garbutt threw in the World Series game against NQ Cowboys has landed him a two match ban.
It will come as a blow to Brian McDermott, because now that it has been made official, it means that Mitch Garbutt won’t be in the game against the Catalan Dragons at the weekend.
The Leeds Rhinos prop was suspended for two games after he admitted the offence in an early plea that earnt him the minimum punishment.
As the Leeds Rhinos vs North Queensland Cowboys started to heat up, so did the tempers. James Tamou and Keith Galloway went head to head with less than 10 minutes to spare, when Mitch Garbut wadded in and threw a massive punch at James Tamou.
The punch landed and the video ref spotted it, earning Garbutt a straight red. A massive over reaction from Garbutt considering that the issue was between two other players. As a result of the punch and the sending off, the Rhinos went down to 12 men and the NQ Cowboys down to 12 as well as James Tamou was sin-binned for his part.
The game ended with Leeds Rhinos 4 – 38 North Queensland Cowboys.
