Manu Tuilagi. A money making move.
There is no doubting the talents and skills of Manu Tuilagi, and there’s no doubting the fact that he is in demand, but could a massive payday be the cause of him leaving Leicester Tigers?
According Richard Cockerill the Director of Rugby at Leicester, it would be the only reason.
Like any other sport Rugby League has its superstars and Manu Tuilagi is one of them. The Samoan born Leicester centre is the subject of discussion at the moment with a reported £500,000 per season being offered to lure him away.
The possible list of those that would or could make the offer is reported to be Premier League sides Saracens, Bath and Toulouse. Although no “official” bid has been made, Leicester Tigers have cause for concern and a “competitive” counter offer has been made.
Richard Cockerill stated that the rules on talking to players would appear to have been broken, but that’s just the way it goes. “Manu Tuilagi is only 24 years old and has his whole future ahead of him, but isn’t planning on a move to a smaller club just for money”.
“We’d love Manu Tuilaga to stay and we’ve put our best foot forward by offering him a very good contract that would make him very well-paid in world terms.”
