Danny Cipriani, from Wasps to Rebel to Shark to Wasps.
There has to be a great feeling of “home coming” for former Wasps player Danny Cipriani as he heads back to the club that started it all.
It has been confirmed that Danny Cipriani will be playing in a Wasps shirt next season. Currently at Sale Sharks, Danny has been a massively important player that has an impressive 89 games for Sale Sharks where he leaves with an equally impressive 694 points scored.
With his Sale Sharks contract still having a year left to run, a break clause has been triggered. Other offers from Toulon and Harlequins were rejected in favour of his new two year deal worth a reported £300,000 a season.
This move means that Dany Cipriani has come full circle as he started out at the Wasps academy as a young 17 back in 2004. His career to date has seen him play for 2 Aviva Premiership clubs and an Australian club for a season.
It’s fair to say that he will be missed at Sale where he has been called upon time and against to get points on the board. Having a solid kicker and a talented fly-half is essential and Sale will start to get a full time replacement up and running before the end of the season. Talents like Cipriani are an asset to have and hard to let go of.
“I’m excited about returning to Wasps next season. It feels like coming home. I feel such a strong connection with Wasps as it’s where I learned my trade. I feel much more equipped to handle and deal with the expectation that comes when you put on the black and gold jersey. There’s something about Wasps which always draws you in. ‘Once a Wasp, always a Wasp’.
“The potential of the squad that Dai Young has developed is really exciting”
